No rest for the wicked!

This is not an ordinary business! I have to admit... all I know about gardening is that I have one and I would like it to be very nice. I am not spreading the knowledge of fertilisers, I normally don't use them on my flowers and everything I do with my compost, I try to do as environment friendly as possible; and yes... that means a LOT of recycling! In fact, I love the idea of bringing a new life for something old. And that also means that I am always hunting new ideas for my garden, I would have to be a little bit of a skip queen ( I don't mind, but my children are increasingly stressed for their social reputation ) and I am always looking to find bargains. So, I decided to make a blog for urban gardeners like me. Maybe half the time looking for information and share the joy of making the city flourish! Why not, it's love all around, right? That also means, that PLEASE send me pics of your garden, your ideas and I will write about them. Just.. Latin is not my language, so I try to stick on the names I know and I believe are commonly used too. In the mean time, please admire my purple Daisy which had a shower yesterday evening and I thought she would be very photogenic. After this short introduction, I now will wait for your mail and ideas and can not wait to tell you about mine :)

So I have decided to turn my garden into a farm like land. It's not huge garden but I believe that with a good organisation, a little bit of patience and hard work it will be a very functional little urban farm, haven for my teens who work hard at school and where I can enjoy a cider or two in peace.

My latest project is chicken. I work in the school and saved three chicks from the uncertain destiny and decided to get some free range eggs. A new experience all over. I am not sure who is more excited, me or the kids, but one thing is certain, these little ones are the funniest thing. Until they grow their feathers they are living in my bedroom in a large rabbit cage. I am not gonna lie, as funny as they are, they are also very messy. I hoover the room every day and within minutes they have made it their own again. They get to stretch their legs outside the cage every day and we are training them with the power of meal worms. To us humans it doesn't sound exciting, but for them it's like a cream of cake. They are absolutely crazy about it. They are so quickly turning from cute little fluff balls into a a proper mini chickens. Few more weeks inside and then they will be able to go and smell the real world. Above is a video when they first came to my house. I am busy converting my old shed into a hen house and building a good size of a chicken run to go with it. That way they don't need to go out when the weather is bad and they still can stretch their legs.

So far I have paid £20 for 30 metres of welded chicken wire and £30 for wood to make the run.
